Bush-Obama Pillow Talk?

13 Jan

presidents-club2 Picture this:  It is 12:30 a.m. on a Tuesday night.  Obama just got done signing a few last minute papers and starts to head up to the residence.  Before he makes it to the elevator, Obama’s assistant calls him over to the phone.  “It is President Bush,” the assistant says.  “Again?” replies Obama.

Yesterday was George W. Bush’s final press conference.  He talked about his accomplishments, admitted to several failures, made several excuses for why America is screwed, and spoke about what he will do starting January, 21.  Bush says that he would like to stay active once he finishes up.  He says, “I just can’t envision myself, you know, the big straw hat and a Hawaiian shirt sitting on some beach.”

I love that image.  Bush, sitting back in a beach chair, sipping on some Mango juice in a straw hat and Hawaiian shirt.  That is hilarious!  But besides the point.

Two questions come to mind when I think about Bush staying engaged with the Obama administration.

Question #1:  Where the hell were you when you were President?  In the past few years we have seen about as much of Bush as we have slap bracelets.  As soon as his popularity started to plummet, W was nowhere to be found.  So why is it that Bush thinks he needs to be in the lime light now?

Question #2:  Will Obama turn to Bush for advice?  I mean, obviously he will not be asking Bush for public speaking tips, but will he turn to Bush for advice on how to deal with certain issues?  I would imagine that Obama would never want anyone to find out if he was.  We all know that more than just a few people would be shaking their fingers in disappointment.  Obviously a former President would be a great person to turn to when you have questions, but Bush? I am very curious to see what kind of role Bush will play when it comes to Obama.  Perhaps we will never really know.

Presidents, I imagine, do not often suffer from a shortage of advice. Thus, I think that we can rest assured that Obama will not likely countenance any pillow talk from Bush.
