Can DC Do It?

23 Feb

Can DC Do It?We are now roughly 24 hours from what could be the biggest victory for DC Voting Rights in decades.  The Senate will be voting on the issue tomorrow, and for the first time it looks like it might pass.  The Washington Post gets us up to speed on the process.

DC Voting Rights brings out passionate people on both sides.  Some people think it is unconstitutional for the District to have Congressional representation.  I say it is a shameful to call ourselves a democracy, when tax-paying residents are without representation.  Lucky for DC Residents, the Constitution leaves District oversight in the hands of Congress, so if they vote to give us representatives, who can argue with that?  Not so lucky for DC Residents, many people will argue with that.  Most likely, if passed, it will go straight to court, but either way, it is a big step in the right direction.

For more information on the issue, the DCist lays out a lot of the options for DC Voting Rights.

So, what do you think about the Senate action and the rider they added withdrawing all DC powers of gun control?
